Dive deep with the Rolex Submariner 168000, an intriguing slice of Rolex history. Manufactured in late 1988-1989, this reference is one of the rarest Submariners ever made, primarily due to its short 8 months production run.

What makes the Submariner 168000 so special is its transitional nature. It was the first Submariner to feature Rolex's new "904L" steel, a high-quality, corrosion-resistant alloy that is still used in their watches today. This upgrade marked a significant shift in Rolex’s approach to durability and quality, though it also meant the 168000 would be produced in limited quantities, making it even rarer as time goes on.

Additionally, the reference number itself is a key factor in its rarity. The 168000 “Triple Zero” was introduced as a bridge model between the 16800 and the 16610, incorporating features from both. It still retained the glossy black dial and the use of Tritium lume, which was transitioning out of production by late 1990s. This example features a glossy tritium untouched dial that has aged to an even eggshell patina & desirable stardust dial pattern throughout. The patina not only adds to its aesthetic appeal but also tells the story of this gracefully aged timepiece.
