Launched in 1953, the automatic Datejust Turn-O-Graph was the first Rolex produced in series to feature a rotating bezel. This model was developed in response to the U.S. Aerobatic Squadron "Thunderbirds," who requested durable watches for their demanding needs. As a result, the Turn-O-Graph earned its iconic nickname due to its exceptional durability and use by the U.S. Air Force. Not only was it Rolex's first pilot watch, but it also marked the introduction of the rotating bezel in their lineup. In addition to the elegance of the classic Datejust, the Turn-O-Graph boasts a bi-directional bezel, giving it a sportier aesthetic. This particular Rolex Datejust Turn-O-Graph reference 1625/3, dating back to 1964, is truly remarkable. It features a stainless steel case with a modern 36 mm diameter, a plexi crystal, and a rare navy pie pan dial, complete with an 18k yellow-gold handset and applied baton markers. The watch comes with its recent 2024 auction purchase invoice from the well-known Antiquorum, adding to its provenance.
