For sale is a rare Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 6105 known as the “Semi-Bubbleback” or “Ovettone,” which means “Big Egg” in Italian, a nod to its unique bubble-shaped case. This design was created to accommodate the rotor screwed onto the movement, allowing for the necessary space for the newly introduced date wheel module. The Reference 6105, produced during a pivotal era for Rolex, features center seconds, rare “Super Oyster” crown and a captivating roulette date wheel displaying both red and black numbers. This model is particularly significant as it represents Rolex’s transition towards larger timepieces, measuring 36mm. This 1953 example is simply in nice vintage condition. While the case has been previously polished, the lugs remain thick and even. The original champagne dial shows some light aging, complemented by gold dauphine hands and gold dagger-shaped applied hour markers. The gilt inscriptions perfectly enhance the dial's aesthetic.
