The Rolex Sea-Dweller has a storied history, originally designed for professional divers and introduced in 1967. The 16600 model represents a significant evolution, produced from 1988 to 2008, combining the classic elements of its predecessors with modern advancements. Notably, it features an upgraded Cal. 3135 movement, thicker case, improved water resistance of up to 4,000 feet, and the iconic helium escape valve, essential for saturation diving.
This SD16600 features a U6-serial example from June 1998 with a rare transitional 'Tritinova' Luminova dial. These unique dials were produced for less than a year, blending Luminova with previously marked "SWISS - T < 25" dials meant for Tritium.
This particular example has an evenly developed cream Luminova patina formed on both hour markers, lume pip & hands. The Lume still lits up briefly with UV exposure.
