The Rolex Submariner Reference 5513 is the quintessential dive watch, blending simplicity with sophistication and durability. Introduced in 1962 and produced until late 1989, the 5513 is a purpose-built dive watch, notable for its clean no-date function & non-COSC rating, distinguishing it from other Submariner models.
The Submariner’s depth rating first appeared on dials in late 1955, becoming standard by 1956. Initially, the rating was displayed in meters followed by feet, but by the early 1970s, Rolex switched to a feet-first format to cater to the expanding US market.
This particular example is preserved with all period correct parts & the original Mk II "Long 5" bezel insert in superb condition, showcasing a deep black coloration with a beautifully aged creamy pearl pip. It retains its original 7mm twin-lock crown, ensuring both style and functionality. Additionally, the watch is fitted with a rare period-correct May 1967 Rolex 7206 Oyster bracelet, complete with stamped 80 end pieces.
The original matte black dial is in impressive condition, exhibiting no damage. The early "zinc sulfide" tritium lume plots display a charming creamy hue and remain full and round, showing no degradation under U.V. light. The original tritium hands match the aged dial perfectly with a darker shade of patina, Overall, the dial markers & minute/seconds/hour hand shows minimal lume loss under U.V. inspection.
