Among all vintage Submariners, the reference 5513 stands out as a true icon. With its timeless tool watch aesthetics, robust design, and impressive 27-year production run, it embodies the essence of Rolex craftsmanship.
This particular 1970 Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 example is originally from the USA & features the coveted "Meters First" dial. This matte variation was the first of its kind introduced to the 5513 line, marking a transition from the earlier gilt glossy dials. In the late 1960s, Rolex began printing the depth rating in meters first—"200m = 660ft"—to cater to the American market, making these dials highly sought after by collectors.
The shift from gilt glossy dials to the meters first matte dials began around the 1.6 million serial range in 1966. Most cases with a 1.7 million serial number were produced in 1968, during which the meters first matte dials were in full production. However, the period from late 1970 to 1971, consistent with the 2.5 million serial range, saw an overlap of both "Meters First" and "Feet First" dials.
This specific example showcases beautiful creamy plots on its matte dial, perfectly matching the hands, all in near pristine condition. It features an honest, well-aged MK3 bezel insert, adding to its vintage charm.
Completing this exceptional piece is a rare 1976 USA rivet C&I bracelet with unlabelled end links. This bracelet was reportedly produced by Rolex USA to avoid import duties associated with Swiss versions.
Don’t miss the opportunity to own this remarkable vintage Submariner, a true testament to Rolex’s legacy!
